There are plenty of really good Japanese places in New York, but this has got to be one of my favorites for sushi/sashimi. It’s part of a chain; there’s another restaurant by the same name on Avenue A in the East Village/ Alphabet City, but don’t even bother going to that one. This one blows it out of the water.

Since moving back here in June, I’ve been back to Takahachi a number of times.  And the one on Duane has not disappointed me yet.  The rolls here are just so inventive.  With names like Godzilla, Anaconda, Little Buddha, Bee Movie, and Passage to India, how can they not be?  Some of my favorites here are Passage to India, Ocean’s 13, and Apollo 13.

The rolls are obviously my favorite things about this restaurant, but that’s not to say their other dishes are great.  I recommend coming with a friend or loved one, order some red miso soup, two or three rolls, grilled yellowtail collar, and a piece or two of the eel tempura.
