NEW YORK: Eataly

Posted in Uncategorized by sue on November 1, 2010

The only thing Eataly has going for it is Mario Batali. If it weren’t for the hype and the huge space in a prominent neighborhood, I think patrons would realize the food isn’t that great and they are being swindled by the portion size and price. At least that’s the case for the pasta and pizza section. The pumpkin lasagna was about half the size of most in this country (granted it’s American portions we are talking about). It was tasty but just simply not worth the $16-$18. The magherita pizza was bland: the tomato sauce was watery and they only gave one tiny sprig of basil.

Eataly is just overwhelming. It reminded me of an Italian Costco. There’s a different section for everything. It’s worth going to once to just say you’ve been, but it’s definitely not mind-blowing. It’s just the scene to be seen. Eh.

about an hour, but we got some wine + cheese in a different section first so it didn’t seem that long.
