Insatiable Girl

This tiny hole in the wall spot is a bit intimidating at first. There aren’t that many seats here and they are usually taken so you’re pretty lucky if you get one. The menu is up in front on a clipboard on the wall and you order there as well. The pho is alright; not terrible, but not amazing. The soup wasn’t like what I had expected, but the brisket blew me away with its tenderness. The pulled pork banh mi was flavorful but lacked the carrots, radish, and cilantro I normally associate with Vietnamese sandwiches. The thing you have to get if you decide to try Nha Toi is the shrimp and bacon summer roll– why didn’t anyone think of that before? It’s probably the best summer roll I have ever had. They even give you three sauces for it. Yum.

I read the reviews on menupages while we were waiting to order which made me a bit apprehensive. Reviewers wrote about bad service and mediocre food, but I didn’t experience any of that. The waitress was friendly and overall pretty attentive. She took away our menus after we ordered our drinks without asking if we were getting food, but she quickly made up for it after I told her about ten minutes later. Joe raved about his Mediterranean burger. I loved my mojo chicken and green chutney. This may be my potential new hood, so if that’s the case, I’ll definitely be coming back.

Good place to get your cupcake fix. Cheap ($2.25) and just the right size– more than a biteful, but not enough to leave me feeling gross.

Must Get: Nothing

Cute place. I’m sure it would have been better had I’d been eating there, but instead I was starving and waiting to get my food to go so I could watch the World Cup Finals. I waited thirty minutes for this simple burger… A medium cooked patty, melted american cheese, whopper sauce (aka thousand island with chopped onions), bread, and that’s it. No tomato, no lettuce Just a simple burger and fries and thirty minutes of my life. Half the time and it would have been worth it and I would probably go back if I were in the area.

p.s. I hope this half eaten burger picture doesn’t gross you out. Sometimes I forget to take a picture until after I had a bite or two!

Price: Reasonable

Reservations: You don’t need them
Must Get: Chipotle Mayo

This place is good, but it’s honestly nothing special outside its location and chipotle mayo. However, the chipotle mayo was so good Joe asked to take some home! This restaurant is so close to the Brooklyn Bridge Park, I know I’ll be back here multiple times before the summer is over.

PRICE: Reasonable
DIRECTIONS: BQ to Prospect Park
RESERVATIONS: You don’t need them.

This Prospect Park Mexican restaurant doesn’t have the typical Mexican flavors I’ve come to expect from my trips below the border with my parents, but it is still good. I would come back here again if I were in the neighborhood– that says a lot.
